| Wisden
Cricket Monthly (March 2009) reproduced some old cricket-related
advertisements,
amongst which were some ads for bats and ball, etc. published by John
Wisden, a cricket equipment and sports shop in central London adjacent to
Leicester Square tube station.
These dated back 100 years or so.
I
knew there was no cricket shop there now and the area is heavily populated with tourist
tat and fast food shops. To my surprise, however, the location was splendidly marked
by the Wisden name picked out in relief tiling built in to the facade of
the tube station itself.
A real find...
(NB within a few
months, the Falafel place had gone to be replaced by another fast food
vendor, but Wisden lives on above)
